Resumen
Una incrustación debe proporcionar buena oclusión, buenos contornos y excelente adaptación marginal. El grado de precisión con que esta se ajuste determinará, el éxito o fracaso de la misma. Como los tejidos duros remanentes pueden haber quedado afectados por el proceso que causó la destrucción parcial del diente, es necesario actuar sobre ellos con el objeto de eliminar tejidos enfermos, infectados o debilitados, que resultarán incapaces de soportar fuerzas o material restaurador, mucho tiempo en su sitio.
Debemos preocuparnos por los aspectos biológicos, físicos y mecánicos además de las tecnología, si se desea el éxito a largo plazo de las restauraciones.
La operatoria dental es el arte y la ciencia del diagnóstico, tratamiento y pronóstico de los defectos de los dientes; devolviendoles la forma, función y la estética dentaria correcta, mantenimiento de la integridad fisiológica de los dientes en relación armoniosa con los tejidos duros y blandos adyacentes; todo para reforzar la salud general y el bienestar del paciente.

An inlay must provide good occlusion, good contours, and excellent marginal adaptation. The degree of precision with which it fits will determine its success or failure. Since the remaining hard tissues may have been affected by the process that caused the partial destruction of the tooth, it is necessary to treat them with the goal of removing diseased, infected, or weakened tissues that will be unable to withstand forces or restorative material for a long time in place.
We must address the biological, physical, and mechanical aspects, as well as the technology, if long-term restoration success is desired.
Operative dentistry is the art and science of diagnosing, treating, and prognosing dental defects; restoring them to their correct form, function, and dental aesthetics; maintaining the physiological integrity of the teeth in harmonious relationship with the adjacent hard and soft tissues; all to enhance the overall health and well-being of the patient.
