Materials and methods: A technological design was developed to reduce the discomfort caused by the current screwdriver used for mini-implant placement in orthodontics and to achieve maximum anchorage during the procedure. An analysis of the instrument's characteristics was performed (action mechanism, angulation, ergonomics, construction materials, torque, versatility, comfort, safety, and access to posterior maxillary and mandibular areas). To this end, verification studies were conducted on a typodont model to which a latex fabric was applied, simulating the resistance offered by perioral muscles and the degree of difficulty of retraction for positioning the screwdriver during mini-implant placement. A macro-level sketch of the entire mechanical system of the screwdriver was also created, and semi-quantitative, non-destructive metallurgical tests of chips were performed using an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Conclusion: The following flaws were identified in the current screwdriver: a straight structure that prevents access to posterior structures, deficiencies in the force transmission and clamping systems, and the absence of a guide device for mini-implant positioning. This information has allowed for the development of a technological design proposal for the new screwdriver, which corrects all the aforementioned flaws. Results: The configuration of the geometric shape with an angle of 90°, the force transmission mechanism (worm screw), the system for attaching the mini-implant to the screwdriver and the guide device.
