Thirty-six roots of extracted maxillary and mandibular single-rooted teeth were instrumented using the step-back technique and obturated with the lateral condensation technique using gutta-percha and Grossman cement. They were divided into four groups and underwent 3 mm apical resections using three different types of burs, one of which was used in combination with a polishing bur, with a high-speed handpiece. The smoothest surface and gutta-percha with the fewest irregularities were produced by the H 021 RS bur in combination with the 30-blade H 135 UF polishing bur. The greatest irregularity in both tooth structure and obturation material was produced by the H 23 L bur, followed by the Endo-z bur, and lastly the H 021 RS bur used alone.El microscopio electrónico de barrido fue usado para evaluar la configuración superficial del corte en resecciones apicales con diferentes tipos de fresas. 36 raíces de dientes unirradiculares extraídos superiores e inferiores fueron instrumentadas con técnica de step-back y obturadas con técnica de condensación lateral con gutapercha y cemento de Grossman. Fueron divididas en cuatro grupos y se les realizaron resecciones apicales a 3 mm, usando tres diferentes tipos de fresas, una de ellas en combinación con una fresa para pulido, con pieza de alta velocidad. La superficie más lisa y la gutapercha con menos irregularidades fue producida por la fresa H 021 RS en combinación con la fresa de pulido H 135 UF de 30 cuchillas.
