This habit can lead to alterations in a child's physiological, psychological, and social development, so it is important to understand the specific consequences of this habit. This monograph seeks to establish the different risk factors or etiologies of this habit and its effects, in order to choose the most appropriate and least traumatic treatment according to the child's age. This habit has a high incidence; therefore, the number of children who come to the dental office is considered significant, sometimes with problems aggravated by inadequate therapeutic techniques. Therefore, it is necessary to choose the most precise treatment with the fewest side effects.Es importante mantener la integridad de la dentición primaria hasta el momenta de su exfoliación puesto que juega tin papel esencial en el desarrollo del niño y puede verse afectada adversamente por factores entre las cuales uno de las más frecuentes es el hábito de succión digital. Este hábito puede conducir a alteraciones en el desarrollo fisiológico, psicológico y social del niño por lo que es importante conocer las consecuencias concretas de dicho hábito. Mediante el desarrollo de la presente monografía se busca establecer los diferentes factores de riesgo o etiología de dicho hábito y su efecto, con el fin de elegir el tratamiento más adecuado y menos traumático de acuerdo a la edad del niño.
