Method: A phase I experimental study was conducted on 42 root-weakened single-rooted premolars. Sampling was done by randomization into 6 experimental groups, with 7 teeth per group. Group I: fiberglass retainer cemented with resin-modified glass ionomer cement; Group II: fiberglass retainer cemented with dual-cure resin cement; Group III: fiberglass retainer cemented with chemically active self-curing resin cement. In Groups IV, V, and VI, the same cements were used, but with a cast type IV gold retainer previously fabricated with Duralay and prefabricated castable retainers. The variables were fracture resistance, fracture site, cement type, and retainer type. The inclusion criteria were: recently extracted premolars for orthodontic reasons, healthy, root length between 14 and 16 millimeters, single canal, incipient odontogenic caries, and minimal occlusal restorations. The exclusion criteria were: dehydrated premolars, premolars with accessory canals, and premolars with fractures. Each tooth was placed in an epoxy resin cube, the crown was cut leaving 2mm of splint, root canal treatment was performed with the crown down technique, 2/3 of the root canals were unobturated with the root weakening machine, 21 canals were prepared with burs from the fiberglass retainer system, the retainers were cemented, the core was rebuilt with resin reconstructor in the prefabricated retainers, then the crowns were waxed, cast, adapted and cemented, they were subjected to continuous compressive load in the Instron universal testing machine, an ANOVA statistical analysis was applied (p=0.05). Results. A difference in resistance was found between the cements (p=0.000) with averages of: group i 127.9171 n, group ii 48.2129 n, group iii 39.0429 n, group iv 79.9243 n, group v 38.0414 n, group vi 55.4000 n.
