We also seek to understand the significance of occlusal balance in comprehensive oral rehabilitation, the repercussions in cases where this balance is lacking, and the main procedures for restoring occlusal stability and thus achieving complete oral rehabilitation. Etymologically, the word "occlusion" is defined as the act of closing or being closed; but in dentistry, it includes both the closure of the dental arches and the various functional movements with the upper and lower teeth in contact. Furthermore, the word "occlusion" is used to designate the anatomical alignment of the teeth and their relationship with the rest of the masticatory system.Se trata de crear conciencia de que el equilibrio oclusal es fundamental para la completa salud y funcionalidad de todo el sistema estomatognático y destacar su importancia para lograr una función oclusal multidireccional armoniosa que garantice el mantenimiento de todos y cada uno de los componentes del sistema gnático y de esta manera contribuir a la salud integral del individuo. Buscamos también comprender la trascendencia del equilibrio oclusal en la rehabilitación oral integral, las repercusiones en los casos en que falta ese equilibrio y los principales procedimientos para restablecer esa estabilidad oclusal y lograr así una completa rehabilitación oral.
