There are two basic reasons for using an intraradicular retainer: to retain the restoration and to protect the remaining tooth structure. Whenever two or more adjacent proximal walls fail, the use of an intraradicular retainer should be considered, as the core helps direct occlusal and excursive forces more apically along the length of the root. Intraradicular retainers have been discussed since the beginnings of restorative dentistry and have evolved over time, given their objective of achieving effective patient rehabilitation, which presents a challenge from both a clinical and technical standpoint. Care must be taken to obtain the necessary and basic instruments for fabricating the intraradicular retainer, and to appropriately select the method and the tissue that will support the restoration.Retenedores intrarradiculares se usan en dientes tratados endodónticamente. Hay dos razones básicas para el uso de un retenedor intraradicular; Retener la restauración y proteger la estructura dental restante.
