A survey was conducted with 120 people responsible for children between the ages of two and six, consisting of 20 questions exploring their knowledge about the importance and care of primary dentition. The main statistically significant results obtained from the questions asked were: Do you know at what age the first permanent molar erupts? 36.6% responded 4-8 years; What do you think baby teeth are for? 43.2% responded that they help maintain space; At what age do you think oral hygiene should begin for children? 53.7% answered when the first tooth erupts; How often do you change your child's toothbrush? 48.4% answered every 3 months. What toothpaste does the child use? 51.6% responded that they use the same toothpaste as everyone else at home. When do you think a child should have their first dental visit? 61.7% answered that it should be done when the child has all their primary teeth. The study concludes that those surveyed do not have a clear understanding of the importance of primary teeth and the proper use of oral hygiene products.El objetivo del estudio fue identificar la importancia que los padres o tutores de niños de tres jardines de infancia en Santiago de Cali le dan a la dentición primaria y su cuidado. Se realizó una encuesta a 120 personas responsables de niños de entre dos y seis años, que consistió en 20 preguntas que exploraban su conocimiento sobre la importancia y el cuidado de la dentición primaria. Los principales resultados estadísticamente significativos obtenidos de las preguntas fueron: ¿Sabe a qué edad erupciona el primer molar permanente? El 36.6% respondió entre los 4 y los 8 años; ¿Para qué cree que sirven los dientes de leche? El 43.2% respondió que ayudan a mantener el espacio; ¿A qué edad cree que debe comenzar la higiene bucal en los niños? El 53.7% respondió que cuando erupciona el primer diente; ¿Con qué frecuencia cambia el cepillo de dientes de su hijo? El 48.4% respondió que cada 3 meses. ¿Qué pasta de dientes usa el niño? El 51.6% respondió que usa la misma pasta de dientes que todos en casa. ¿Cuándo cree que un niño debería tener su primera visita al dentista? El 61,7% respondió que debería hacerse cuando el niño tenga todos sus dientes de leche.
