The World Health Organization defines alcohol abuse when the daily intake of alcohol exceeds 50 grams in women and 70 grams in men. Materials and methods: The study was a random sample survey based on the AUDIT test by the WHO. This test was apply to a dentist patients in Cali. We included other questions to identify socio demographic data such as age, gender, ethnic origin, marital status, socio-economic status, level education, access to social security and employment/occupation among others. The survey also included some more questions to determine the presence of habits such as smoking and/or illegal drugs. Results: From a sample size of 100 people, 41.4% were males and 58.6% were women. 46.5% were unmarried and 36.4% were employed. The most frequent age was 30 years old. The highest consumption of alcohol, above risk-free level, was found in the unemployed individuals with a 71.4% (p=0.0023), which entails statistical significance of the sample. Conclusions: The research reveals a high prevalence of alcohol consumption (63.4%) in patients served by the clinic. La organización Mundial de la Salud define el alcoholismo como la ingestión diaria de alcohol superior a 50 gramos en la mujer y a 70 gramos en el hombre. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal, a pacientes de la clínica, aplicando el AUDIT (test de identificación de los trastornos debidos al consumo de alcohol establecido por la QMS); se incluyeron preguntas para identificar datos sociodemográficos (edad, fecha de nacimiento, género, etnia, estado civil, estrato socioeconómico, escolaridad, seguridad social, ocupación), hábitos como fumar y/o consumir alguna sustancia alucinógena. Resultados: De las 100 personas encuestadas el 41.4% eran hombres y el 58.6% eran mujeres, la edad que más se presentó fue 30 años, el 46.5% eran solteros y el 36.4% eran empleados. El mayor consumo de alcohol en un nivel de riesgo según la ocupación lo presentaron los no empleados con un 71.4% (p=0.0023), lo que quiere decir que tiene significancia estadística. Conclusiones: La investigación arrojó una alta prevalencia de consumo de alcohol (63.4%) en pacientes que asisten a las clínicas de la institución.
