Materials and Methods A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 115 students. They were instructed through a lecture and an instructional document on PSR, performed two periodontal examinations on the 115 participants, and answered a 19-question test. Results The periodontist analyzed the results of the periodontal examinations, diagnosing both systems in the same way: 115 patients were periodontally healthy, while fifty presented with different types of periodontal disease. The survey results were analyzed using EPI-INFO 2004 Ver.33 software, demonstrating the ease of understanding, speed, and time savings of the Periodontal Record System (PSR) and its effectiveness in determining the need for periodontal treatment. 100% of respondents agreed that the PSR should be included as an appendix to the clinical records of the Colombian Dental College in Cali. Conclusions: The majority of students understood the PSR. The study population recognized the effectiveness of the Periodontal Record System (PSR). The inclusion of the PSR as an appendix to the clinical record is necessary.El objetivo de este estudio era reconoce la efectividad y rapidez del nuevo sistema de registro periodontal PSR en comparación con el periodontograma actualmente usado en las clínicas del Colegio Odontológico Colombiano Cali, para implementarlo como anexo en la hoja de examen del crea de diagnóstico de las clínicas y por ende en las historias clínicas, sin dejar a un lado el examen periodontal más profundo de ser necesario. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal con 115 alumnos, se les instruyó con clase magistral y con documento instructivo sobre PSR, realizaron los dos exámenes periodontales a las 165 personas y respondieron un test de 19 preguntas. Resultados Los resultados de los exámenes periodontales los analizo el periodoncia, diagnosticando de igual forma en ambos, a 115 pacientes periodontalmente sanos y cincuenta presentaban diferentes tipos de periodontopatías. Los resultados de las encuestas fueron analizados en el programa EPI-INFO 2004 Ver.33, demostrando el fácil entendimiento, la rapidez y el ahorro de tiempo del PSR y su efectividad para saber la necesidad de tratamiento periodontal, el 100% opinó que era necesaria la inclusión del PSR como anexo en las historias clínicas del Colegio Odontológico Colombiano Cali Conclusiones La mayoría de los estudiantes comprendido el PSR. La población sujeto de estudio reconoció la efectividad del sistema de registro periodontal PSR.
