Impacted teeth are isolated teeth that generally fail to erupt due to a lack of strength, and impacted teeth are those that were unable to erupt due to a physical barrier to their eruption path. The existing literature reports that 35% (thirty-five percent) of the population has impacted or impacted third molars, although this distribution is poorly understood. Studies conducted to date consider impacted and impacted teeth as the same pathology. Every impacted or impacted tooth is susceptible to various disorders. Although they sometimes go unnoticed and do not cause any discomfort to the patient, all of these conditions can be classified into different groups. There are classifications for impacted and impacted third molars, which relate to the position of their major axis with respect to the axis of the second molar and the level of the tooth in relation to the occlusal plane of the second molar.El problema de la retención e inclusión dentaria es ante todo de índole mecánica y evolutiva. Los dientes incluidos son los aislados que no erupcionan generalmente por falta de fuerza, y los dientes retenidos son los que no pudieron erupcionar por la presencia de alguna barrera física en su trayectoria de erupción La literatura existente reporta que el 35% (treinta y cinco por ciento) de la población presenta terceros molares incluidos o retenidos siendo distribución poco conocida dentro de la misma, ya que los estudios realizados hasta el momento toman los dientes incluidos y los dientes retenidos como una misma patología. Todo diente retenido o incluido es susceptible de producir trastornos de índole diversa, a pesar de que algunas veces pasan inadvertidos y no ocasionan ninguna molestia al paciente, todos estos accidentes pueden ser clasificados en diferentes grupos.
