The aim of this study was to assess muscle function using electromyography of soft palate in patients with palatoplasty and integrated management with functional orthopedic and speech therapy. Methods: A sample of 37 patients aged between 5 and 16 years with palatoplasty, who attended the Operation Smile Colombia in Bogota. After assessment orthodontic and speech therapy to patients referred to physical medicine service for the initial electromyographic study defined a comprehensive treatment plan orthopedic and speech, two years after re-evaluated for orthodontic treatment and speech and electromyographic studies were repeated and models. Results: The EMG test showed that there are statistically significant changes between initial and final tests (p <0.001), both in amplitude motor unit action potential and interference patterns of swallowing and phonation, but not showed significance between improvements in speech and swallowing when these two variables are correlated. Conclusions: We concluded that comprehensive rehabilitation treatment in patients with sequelae of cleft lip and palate are effective as long as they are made simultaneously and integrally with other specialtiesResumen: Las alternativas de tratamiento para la rehabilitación de pacientes con secuela de labio y paladar hendido son múltiples y el tiempo es considerado desde el embarazo hasta la edad adulta, es aquí donde el manejo multidisciplinario permite la recuperación sicosocial, funcional y estética de estos pacientes. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la función del musculo del velo del paladar mediante electromiografías, en pacientes con palatoplastia y manejo integral de ortopedia funcional y fonoaudiología. Método: se tomó una muestra de 37 pacientes con edades entre 5 y 16 años con palatoplastia, que acudieron a la fundación operación sonrisa Colombia en la ciudad de Bogotá. Previa valoración ortodóntica y fonoaudiológica se remitid a los pacientes al servicio de fisiatría para el estudio electromiográfico inicial y se definió el plan de tratamiento integral de ortopedia y fonoaudiología, dos años después de tratamiento se reevaluó por ortodoncia y fonoaudiología y se repitieron los estudios electromiográfico y modelos. Resultados: La prueba electromiografía demostró que existen cambios estadísticamente significativos entre las pruebas iniciales y finales (p<0.001), tanto en amplitud de la unidad motora de potencial de acción y de los patrones de interferencia en deglución y en fonación, sin embargo, no se mostró significancia entre las mejoras en fonación y deglución cuando se correlacionan estas dos variables.
