From a periodontal perspective, fixed prostheses are the restorations of choice for replacing missing or lost teeth, but there are some clinical situations in which removable partial dentures are the only way to restore lost function. The usefulness of removable prostheses in complete denture treatment, ideal for patients, does not diminish, despite the large number of problems caused by poorly designed prostheses or those made without prior knowledge and study of the individual case. These problems are exacerbated in patients with poor oral hygiene, and therefore removable dentures are not considered an incorrigible and always evident cause of problems in patients with this type of restoration. Desde el punto de vista periodontal, las prótesis fijas son las restauraciones de elección para el reemplazo de dientes ausentes o perdidos, pero hay algunas situaciones clínicas en las cuales las prótesis parciales removibles son la única manera de restaurar la función perdida de la dentición.
