The objectives of this include the production of unconsciousness, inhibition of autonomic responses to noxious stimuli, production of amnesia, relaxation of skeletal muscles, and rapid recovery to a state of mental alertness. Las investigaciones han sido muchas y los adelantos también, pero en la literatura encontramos que los autores demuestran un anhelo por seguir adelante, y alcanzar mayores logros. Dicen: “es mucho lo que hemos logrado, y a un más, lo que falta por encontrar", es el deseo de los científicos hallar un medicamento más preciso y con mayores propiedades. Sobre este tema se encuentra gran cantidad de libros y artículos, es muy extenso, tanto, así como que es una especialización de la medicina. Es mi intención aportar por medio de este trabajo un texto de consulta que oriente y de las bases necesarias para entender el tema, ya que me parece importante te que todos los odontólogos se familiaricen con esta importante modalidad de control de dolor. La anestesia general es una depresión del sistema nervioso central inducido por drogas y reversible, resultando en la inconsciencia y pérdida de todas las sensaciones.
