The temporomandibular joint consists of four components: 1. Temporal: Articular surface of the temporal bone. 2. Mandibular: Condyle of the mandibular bone. 3. Discal: Interarticular disc that establishes the congruity between the two previous components (Bell, 1982). 4. Connecting structures: These are responsible for providing support, stabilization, and protection to the joint's integrity. It is essential that both students and dentists become aware of the importance of the TMJ in order to provide comprehensive oral health care to the patient, based on thorough completion of the medical history, and thus be able to diagnose and carry out an effective treatment plan.Es de gran importancia conocer las partes que integran su anatomía y comprender su funcionamiento articular.
