The importance of using an intraoperative facial monitor in surgical procedures is being investigated to optimize the process and prevent potential damage that can occur in any type of surgery involving the facial nerve. This aims to alert the surgeon to the proximity of the nerve, preventing potential trauma that could lead to complications and devastating consequences for both the patient and the surgeon. To present this project, the following scientific, medical, and technical considerations are compiled. This monograph bases its research on more complex monitors, from those based on facial activity via an electromyographic monitor, which allows the patient's face to be located while attempting to detect any muscle contraction, to systems that detect any muscle contraction.
