We are aware of patients’ concerns regarding the mercury content of amalgam and its poor esthetics, in addition to the international trend toward reducing the use of this material in countries such as Sweden and Germany. However, amalgam has been used in the dental profession for more than 100 years, and most dentists are more familiar with it than with any other type of material. At present, there are composite resins with excellent properties for use in posterior teeth. However, considering the importance of rigorous handling to achieve successful results, it is necessary to stay updated and understand their properties, indications, and the proper management of the material.En la actualidad, el ejercicio profesional de la odontología enfrenta un dilema preocupante, ya que cada vez más los pacientes están pidiendo “restauraciones color diente”, que aunque estén disponibles y formen parte del itinerario de procedimientos odontológicos, existen casos en los que no son utilizados con un adecuado protocolo.
