If the patient has a healthy mouth, strive to keep it disease-free for as long as possible. Consider the patient as a whole, not just as a set of teeth with some degree of disease. The dentist must believe, and demonstrate that belief, that prevention truly works. If they reveal uncertainty and a lack of confidence, they will be unable to influence their patients enough to adopt a new attitude toward dental health. Prevention should be a team effort, with auxiliary staff receiving appropriate training.
