Teeth are lost for various reasons, such as dental caries, periodontal disease, and traumatic injuries. If dental health is to be maintained, missing teeth must be replaced, and the most effective method, when possible, is a fixed bridge. Since it is firmly attached to the teeth, it does not shift, and there is no risk of the patient eating it. It resembles natural teeth; there is no volume increase that would affect oral relationships. It has no anchors that move on the tooth surface during functional movements, preventing wear of the dental tissues. It acts as a splint on the anchored teeth, thus protecting them from damaging forces. It transmits functional forces in a way that favorably stimulates the supporting tissues.El término prótesis fija se aplica a aquellas restauraciones, que va unida a los dientes de soporte y no se puede retirar para limpiarla o inspeccionarla.
