The clinical case involved a 40-year-old male patient who attended consultation on July 20, 2000, with the chief complaint of “general treatment.” In the literature review, a bibliographic matrix was used, including the following thematic units: anatomy, embryology, histology, definition, etiology, symptomatology, histopathology, imaging, incidence, treatment, and progression. The information was obtained from five books, twelve specialized journal articles, and seventeen web pages. Thirty references were in English, eleven in Spanish, one in Portuguese, and one in French. Clinical examination revealed an asymmetry in the depth of the vestibular sulcus at the level of the anterior maxillary teeth. Therefore, an occlusal radiograph was taken, showing a well-defined unilocular radiolucent oval-shaped area located in the anterior region of the palatine processes and superimposed on the anterior nasal spine. The cyst was subsequently enucleated, and a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of a nasopalatine cyst. Although considered a benign entity, the nasopalatine cyst should be treated because it creates areas of fragility, mainly due to the slow and progressive resorption of the maxillary bone tissue, which may lead to fractures. Additionally, there is a possibility of involving adjacent structures such as teeth, the maxillary sinus, or the nasal cavity. In some cases, the cyst increases in size and may eventually become infected.El objetivo de este estudio es establecer el manejo, diagnóstico y tratamiento del quiste nasopalatino mediante una revisión bibliográfica y la presentación de un caso clínico. El caso clínico correspondió a un paciente masculino de 40 años que asistió a consulta el 20 de julio de 2000, cuyo motivo de consulta fue “tratamiento general”. En la revisión bibliográfica se utilizó una matriz bibliográfica cuyas unidades temáticas fueron: anatomía, embriología, histología, definición, etiología, sintomatología, histopatología, imaginología, incidencia, tratamiento y evolución. La información se obtuvo de cinco libros, doce artículos de revistas especializadas y diecisiete páginas web. Treinta referencias estaban en inglés, once en español, una en portugués y una en francés. Al examen clínico, el paciente presentaba una asimetría en el fondo del surco vestibular a nivel de los dientes anterosuperiores. Por esta razón, se tomó una radiografía oclusal en la que se observó un área radiolúcida unilocular, bien definida, de forma ovalada, ubicada en la zona anterior de los procesos palatinos y superpuesta a la espina nasal anterior. Posteriormente, se realizó la enucleación del quiste y una biopsia que confirmó el diagnóstico de quiste nasopalatino. A pesar de ser considerada una entidad benigna, el quiste nasopalatino debe ser tratado porque constituye una zona de fragilidad, principalmente debido a la reabsorción lenta y progresiva del tejido óseo maxilar, lo que puede ocasionar fracturas. Adicionalmente, existe la posibilidad de comprometer estructuras vecinas como dientes, seno maxilar o cavidad nasal.
