A child's first dental visit can be an advantage or a problem for both the patient and the operator—even for those who may treat them in the future. A young patient's behavior and acceptance of subsequent treatments depend on their first experiences in the office. Understanding a child's psychology at this time is just as important as providing appropriate oral treatment. Children have their reasons for crying, and when their attitude is fearful, the procedure should be analyzed and the patient should be allowed to express the reasons for their behavior. What will be performed should then be explained clearly, simply, and honestly. Everything in the office should be shown, and the child's behavior and how it will be used should be explained. There are those who force the child to behave calmly when he or she is not, and of course the patient will not react positively in any way, but will instead express rejection, fear, and aversion to everything related to dental treatment.Es el problema causado paciente por descuido, negligencia, accidente o falta de conocimientos del operador. La asistencia de primera vez de un niño a la consulta odontológica puede resultar una ventaja o un problema tanto para el paciente como para el operador; incluso para quienes lo puedan tratar en un futuro. De las primeras experiencias en el consultorio, en el paciente de corta edad depende su comportamiento y aceptación en los tratamientos posteriores. Saber comprender la psicologia del nino en ese momento es tan importante como realizarle un adecuado tratamiento oral. El niño tiene sus razones de llanto, y cuando su actitud es de temor, se debe analizar y dejar que el paciente exprese el porque de su comportamiento para luego explicarle de una manera clara, sencilla y sincera lo que se le va a practicar, mostrándole todo cuanto hay en el consultorio y diciéndole para que sirve y cómo se va a utilizar.
