Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a target population of 1102 and a sample of 212 students from the Colombian Dental College, Santiago de Cali campus. A self-administered structured survey was used to collect the information. Results: Of the total number of students surveyed, 26.4% (56/212) responded that they currently smoked, and regarding alcohol consumption, 82.5% (175/212) responded that they currently drank. It was found that the majority of the population began smoking and drinking between the ages of 12 and 19. As age increases, tobacco consumption rises to 50% among the 24-26 age group. Regarding alcohol, the prevalence of consumption is high across all age groups, but highest among those aged 18-20. It was observed that the entire surveyed population is aware that tobacco and alcohol consumption are harmful to health. Conclusion: Among alcohol consumers, there is no significant difference in terms of gender, but there is a significant difference in terms of age, with higher consumption among those aged 18-20.Objetivo general: El objetivo de nuestra investigación fue estimar la prevalencia e identificar, los conocimientos, actitudes y practicas acerca del consumo de tabaco y alcohol en estudiantes de primero a décimo semestre del Colegio odontológico colombiano extensión Santiago de Cali; con el propósito de crear programas de prevención de estos hábitos para los estudiantes. Materiales y método: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal con una población objetivo de 1102 y una muestra de 212 estudiantes del Colegio odontológico colombiano, extensión Santiago de Cali. Se realizó una encuesta estructurada auto diligenciada por los estudiantes para recolectar la información. Resultados: Del total de los estudiantes encuestados, el 26.4% (56/212) respondieron que si fumaban actualmente y en cuanto al consumo de alcohol 82.5 % (175/212) respondieron que toman actualmente. Se encontró que la mayoría de la población comenzó a fumar y a tomar de los 12 a los 19 años. A medida que aumenta la edad la población de 24 a 26 años aumentan el consumo de tabaco a un 50%. En cuanto al alcohol la prevalencia del consumo es alta en todas las edades siendo mayor entre los 18 y 20 años. Se observe que el total de la población encuestada conoce que el consumo de tabaco y alcohol es perjudicial para la salud.
