The study aims to assess whether the implementation of an autonomous criminal offense such as femicide has achieved the objectives intended by the legislator within the framework of Colombian Criminal Law. The work is structured in three chapters: the first reviews the historical context of violence against women in Colombia between 2007 and 2017; the second describes the legal classification of femicide under the Colombian Penal Code; and the third analyzes the impact of Law 1761 of 2015 on violence against women before and after its enactment. The law was enacted in response to the case of Rosa Elvira Cely, a victim of a brutal crime that shocked Colombian society. Law 1761 of 2015 incorporated Articles 104A and 104B into the Penal Code, establishing femicide as an autonomous crime with the aim of strengthening the legal framework to protect women’s rights and guarantee their right to a life free of violence.
