The surgical process involves modifying or reshaping a visible part of the face to correct a structural or aesthetic defect, while also achieving harmony without neglecting function and the structures involved. Despite the clinical characteristics of the face, it is readily apparent that there are compensatory mechanisms that allow a face to appear ideal or aesthetically acceptable, concealing or attenuating exaggerated or diminished features. Given the lack of sufficient information among general dentists regarding dentolabial anomalies, as well as the lack of expertise to accurately diagnose and develop treatment options for these patients, this research aims to provide the necessary knowledge to address this deficiency.La cirugía oral y maxilofacial es una especialidad de la odontología, donde básicamente se busca corregir anomalías dentolabiales que intervengan con el perfil facial; tratando en el proceso quirúrgico de modificar o remodelar una parte visible como lo es la cara con el fin de corregir un defecto estructural o estético, dando también armonía sin descuidar el factor funcional y las estructuras involucradas. A pesar de las características clínicas faciales se observa a simple vista que existen compensaciones que permiten que una cara parezca ideal o estéticamente aceptables y que disimulan o atenúan rasgos exagerados y disminuidos.
