We could consider this a rudimentary example of what would later become the removable partial denture. As early as 1728, Heister first mentioned the Removable Partial Prosthesis. At the same time, work and studies began during this period that would serve as the foundation for further research. In 1746, Mouton, a French dentist, as a result of the previous studies, published the first book on prosthetics, where he first mentioned the possibility of retaining partial appliances using elastic gold bands or clasps capable of retaining the teeth.
