Materials and methods: A review of literature as an object of study was scientific articles, the search began in databases such as PubMed, SCIELO REDALYC, ELSEVIER, among others, using key words, taking into account criteria inclusion and exclusion. The initial search threw 400 articles, of which 50 were selected who met the eligibility criteria. Results: We found that ionizing radiation ray type x gender not only demonstrations but also general level in the oral cavity, xerostomia being more frequent in the oral cavity, secondly is finally mucositis and osteoradionecrosis. Possible treatments were found for each of these. Discussion: The radiation has had extensive use in the field of medicine, especially in cancer treatment, however also attributed significant adverse effects on oral cavity lesions are occasionally presented as irreversible. Xerostomia is the most common injury, mucositis and radionecrosis also occupy an important place. In relation to the treatment of xerostomia and mucositis authors agree on a palliative treatment but this is not the same for all patients. Conclusions: The literature shows that most oral expression often generated by ionizing radiation is xerostomia, mucositis followed this, the decay radiation sialadenitis, laryngeal edema and trismo. In cases where the radiation level exceeds the osteoradionecrosis exposure occurs, the most severe manifestations.Objetivo: Determinar las manifestaciones generales y orales más frecuentes generadas en personas expuestas a la radiación ionizante tipo rayos x, teniendo en cuenta el manejo terapéutico, a través de una revisión de la literatura científica. Materiales y métodos: se realizó una revisión de la literatura que tuvo como objeto de estudio artículos científicos, la búsqueda inicio en bases de datos como: PUB-MED, SCIELO, REDALYC, ELSEVIER, entre otras, utilizando palabras claves; teniendo en cuenta criterios de inclusión y exclusión. La búsqueda inicial arrojo 400 artículos, de los cuales se seleccionaron 70 que cumplieron los criterios de elegibilidad. Resultados: Se encontró que la radiación ionizante subclasificada en rayos x, no solo genera manifestaciones a nivel general sino también en cavidad oral; siendo la xerostomía la de mayor frecuencia en cavidad oral, en segundo lugar, se encuentra la mucositis y por último la osteorradionecrosis. Se encontraron los posibles tratamientos para cada una de estas. Discusión: La radiación ha tenido una amplia utilidad en el área de la medicina, sobre todo en el tratamiento del cáncer, no obstante, también se le atribuyen efectos adversos importantes en la cavidad oral que se presentan como lesiones ocasionalmente irreversibles. La xerostomía es la lesión más frecuente; la mucositis y la radio necrosis también ocupan un lugar importante. En relación con el tratamiento de la xerostomía y la mucositis los autores coinciden en un manejo paliativo sin embargo 6ste no es el mismo para todos los pacientes. Conclusiones: La literatura evidencia, que la manifestación oral más frecuente generada por la radiación ionizante es la xerostomía, seguida a esta la mucositis, la caries de radiación, la sialoadenitis, el edema laríngeo y el trismo.
