It provides a good seal between the restoration and the tooth, preventing marginal microleakage and increasing the resistance of the tooth surface to masticatory forces, thus avoiding potential fractures of the restoration and, consequently, of the tooth. Dental science is advancing daily in the discovery, study, and clinical use of dental materials, innovating and disseminating, primarily, new adhesive systems for amalgam to enamel and dentin.Por medio de esta investigación se pretende reconocer la importancia que ha tenido la amalgama dental en la práctica clínica odontológica como material obturante en dientes posteriores más antiguo de la historia que brinda un buen sellado de la restauración al diente, evitando así la microfiltración marginal y brindando un aumento en la resistencia de la superficie dental a las fuerzas de la masticación, evitando así posibles fracturas de la restauración, y por consiguiente al diente.
