Colombia. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in a non-probabilistic convenience sample that included study models of 38 children between 8 and 10 years old who had mixed dentition. The width, perimeter and length of the arch were measured. Measures of central tendency and dispersion were calculated for each of the participants. Results: A trend of greater intercanine width is observed in men than in women in both the upper and lower jaw. In the upper intercanine distance, the average was greater in the male gender with 35 ±1.64, unlike the female gender, which had a lower distance with 32.9 ±1.78 and the distribution of the lower intercanine distance, the average, was also greater in males with 27.6 ±15.03 and in females 26 ±1.64. The intermolar width in the upper arch was greater in the male gender with an average of 48.5 ±2.77 and in the female gender with 46.6 ±2.40. In the lower arch the distribution of intermolar width was also greater in the male gender with 43.0 ±2.39 and in the female gender with 41.2 ±2.10. The length and perimeter of the arch was also greater in both the upper and lower arch in the male gender compared to the female gender. Conclusion: The dental arches of the children evaluated, given their transverse dimensions, presented characteristics related to an oval shape in the upper and lower arch, the arch perimeter and arch length present sexual dimorphism; since in men the averages of these dimensions were higher than in women.Este artículo tuvo como propósito principal analizar la forma y tamaño del arco dental en población afrodescendiente entre 8 y 10 años en una institución educativa en el municipio de Villa Rica, Cauca. Colombia. Métodos: Se llevó a cabo un estudio de tipo descriptivo transversal en una muestra no probabilística por conveniencia que incluyó modelos de estudio de 38 niños entre 8 y 10 años que presentan dentición mixta. Se realizó la medición del ancho, perímetro y longitud de arco. Se calcularon las medidas de tendencia central y dispersión para cada uno de los participantes. Resultados: Se observa una tendencia del ancho intercanino mayor en hombres que en mujeres tanto en el maxilar superior como en el inferior. En la distancia intercanina superior el promedio fue mayor en el género masculino con 35 ±1.64 a diferencia del género femenino que presento una distancia menor con 32.9 ±1.78 y; la distribución de la distancia intercanina inferior el promedio fue también mayor en el género masculino con 27.6 ±15.03 y en las mujeres 26 ±1.64. El ancho intermolar en el arco superior fue mayor en el género masculino con un promedio 48.5 ±2.77 y en el género femenino con 46.6 ±2.40. En el arco inferior la distribución del ancho intermolar también fue mayor en el género masculino 43.0 ±2.39 y en el género femenino con 41.2 ±2.10. La longitud y el perímetro de arco también fue mayor tanto en el arco superior como en el inferior en el género masculino comparado con el género femenino.
