This study was conducted at the pediatric dentistry clinic of the Colombian Dental College, Santiago de Cali branch, between February 1st and August 2nd, 2004. 253 medical records were reviewed, and 136 were selected after applying the simple proportion statistical formula. The selected parents and children were observed and filmed, taking into account manifestations of anxiety, fear, and tranquility in both the child and the parent. These observations were divided as follows: first appointment: father-mother inside the dental office with their child, second appointment: father-mother outside the office, while the child is being treated, third appointment: father-mother and child inside the dental office, fourth appointment: Completion of the data collection form.El objetivo del trabajo es determinar según la actitud del padre, si es importante su presencia durante la consulta odontológica de su hijo. Este estudio se realizó en la clínica de odontopediatría del Colegio Odontológico Colombiano sede Santiago de Cali, en el periodo comprendido entre el 1° de febrero y el 2° de agosto del 2004, se contabilizaron 253 historias clínicas, seleccionando 136 historias clínicas luego de realizar la formula estadística de proporción simple.
