Secondary objectives included designing a Child Abuse Suspected Report Form and, finally, identifying the knowledge of students in the pediatric dentistry clinics of the Dental College (Santiago de Cali Campus) regarding the phenomenon of child abuse, with the aim of helping general dentists and specialists provide better care to abused pediatric patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Based on a literature review and expert input, the Child Abuse Suspected Report Form and its accompanying guide were designed. Surveys were administered to a student population at the Colombian Dental College (Santiago de Cali Campus) to assess their knowledge of child abuse and their perceived ability to identify the types of abuse they might encounter in clinical practice. RESULTS: These surveys revealed that 67% of the students surveyed felt they lacked sufficient knowledge for the diagnosis and, consequently, the treatment of patients with the aftereffects of abuse. CONCLUSIONS: This study presents a tool for general dentists and specialists in the care of abused children, designed to provide comprehensive management and improve the quality of life of pediatric patients.Diseñar una Guía Odontológica para el diagnóstico y el manejo multidisciplinario del niño que asiste a la consulta odontológica general y especializada con signos de maltrato infantil. Como objetivos secundarios, se propuso diseñar un Formato para el Reporte de Sospecha de Maltrato Infantil; por último, identificar los conocimientos de los alumnos de las clínicas de odontopediatría del Colegio Odontológico (Sede Santiago de Cali), frente al fenómeno de maltrato infantil; con el propósito de ayudar a odontólogos generales y especialistas a brindar una mejor atención al paciente pediátrico maltratado. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: A partir de la revisión de la literatura, y el conocimiento de un experto, se diseñó el Formato para el Reporte de Sospecha de Maltrato Infantil, con su respectiva guía. Se aplicaron encuestas a una población de estudiantes en el Colegio Odontológico Colombiano (Sede Santiago de Cali), en las que se identifican los conocimientos frente al tema del maltrato infantil y la capacidad que dichos estudiantes consideran poseer para identificar los tipos de maltrato que se puedan presentar en la práctica clínica. RESULTADOS: Estas encuestas registraron que el 67% de los estudiantes evaluados consideran que no tienen las bases suficientes para el diagnóstico y, por ende, para el tratamiento de pacientes con secuelas de maltrato.
