In the last years, the demand of tourists who are concerned about climate change and environmental deterioration has increased significantly, making it necessary for tourist destinations to reinvent themselves and be able to offer well-planned and managed ecotourism as Costa Rica has done since years ago and that does explain the success that Costa Rica has today. The bibliographic research, in addition, focuses on analyzing the Colombian Amazon region and shows that it’s one of the regions by the greatest biodiversity in the world and also evidences factors very similar to Costa Rica in terms of climate, tourist places and the biodiversity of flora and fauna that it has; In this way, it’s possible to analyze the strategies proposed by Costa Rica and which can be applied to the Colombian Amazon region to achieve optimal ecotourism.En el presente trabajo se muestra un estudio de caso sobre las estrategias que Costa Rica ha aplicado para convertirse en el principal destino ecoturístico de las Américas, y como han llegado a encontrar un equilibrio entre el desarrollo económico del país y la conservación de su patrimonio natural. En los últimos años, la demanda de turistas que se preocupan por el cambio climático y el deterioro ambiental ha aumentado significativamente, por lo que es necesario que los destinos turísticos se reinventen y puedan ofrecer un ecoturismo bien planteado y manejado como lo ha hecho Costa Rica desde hace varios años, y que le han permitido lograr el éxito que hoy en día tiene.
