The muscles excited by the nervous system constitute the active part of the stomatognathic system, while the auxiliary muscles, the temporomandibular joints with their ligaments, and the teeth with their supporting structures play a passive role. The structural unit of the nervous system is the neuron or nerve cell, composed of: a cell body called the soma or perikaryon, and protoplasmic processes called nerve fibers that emerge from the cell body.El aparato masticador es una unidad funcional formada por: Dientes, Estructuras de Soporte, Maxilar Superior, Mandíbula, Articulaciones Temporo-Maxilares, Lengua, Músculos, Vasos y Nervios correspondientes a estos tejidos.
