Furthermore, it will help to identify the level of information that the students have about oral health, Materials and methods: A transversal, descriptive and observational study was made considering a population of 360 students from which a stratified aleatory sample of 150 subjects was observed. In this investigation, the diagnosis criteria ruled by the QMS was used. A structured survey was performed, it was composed of 10 closed questions concerning the knowledge about health and dental hygiene and it was used to determine associated factors and C.O.P. indexes, the Green & Vermilion index analyzed the accumulation of bacterial plaque and a diet index identified and classified the students according to their diet type (high, low or moderately cariogenic). Results: A 96.7% of dental decay prevalence was found in the population subject to the study. The C.O.P. indexes showed a 3.4 value, the Green & Vermilion plaque index showed an average between 16.6 and 19.2 with a moderate cariogenic diet on the 63.3% of the population. After the analysis was made, no significant statistic relation was found between the associated factors (oral hygiene, teeth brushing frequence, dental floss use, mouth wash use, regular visits to the dentist) and the presence or not of dental decaying processes. The subjects with moderate cariogenic diet have a higher prevalence to dental decay than the subjects that have a low cariogenic diet (p= 0.43), non individuals presented a high cariogenic diet, Conclusions: The bacterial plaque index showed that the population under the study has a high value of plaque 16.6. Besides, a high level diet qualified as highly cariogenic gives a higher possibility of acquiring dental cavities. Indicating by this mean that this kind of diet and the accumulation of bacterial plaque causes the desmineralization of the dental structure and its destruction.
