General opposition to the procedure stems from the belief that it is impossible to fit with sufficient accuracy in the mouth. Another claimed disadvantage of selective wear is that any adjustment must be made by removing tooth structure! As it would seem that certain occlusions benefit from the addition to the tooth structure, the entire concept of intraoral selective wear is rejected. Knowledge of the principles and reasoned exposition of occlusal adjustment will refute each of these opinions. Dentists who have learned to correctly manipulate the mandible into the terminal hinge position without resistance from their patients find the mouth to be an extremely comfortable place to work. La oposici6n general al procedimiento nace de la creencia de que es imposible ajustar con la suficiente exactitud en la boca. ¡Otra desventaja aducida del desgaste selectivo es que todo ajuste debe efectuarse mediante la eliminación de estructura dentaria!
