METHOD: It is a 30 patient descriptive traverse observational study with diagnostic of atypical swallowing. RESULTS: The age average was of 21.7± 2.4 years. There is a significant relationship among the teeth in study and the teeth control and the absence of continuity of the periodontal ligament for vestibular and palatine, also with the absence of continuity of the hard sheet for vestibular. There is not significant relationship among the teeth in study and the teeth control and the absence of continuity of the hard sheet for palatine. There is not significant relationship among the teeth in study and the teeth control and the radicular reabsorption. CONCLUSIONS: A relationship exists between the lack of continuity of the periodontal ligament and the hard sheet so much for vestibular as for palatine with the presence of external radicular reabsorption. The association between the absence of the continuity of the periodontal ligament and the hard sheet so much for vestibular as for palatine with the presence of reabsorption external radicular presented bigger percentages, however this difference with the other groups is not significant. The proportion of reabsorption radicular for this study is of 60% for the teeth in study and of 45% for the teeth control, with a frequency of 36 upper central teeth affected of a total of 60 studied teeth and 27 upper lateral teeth affected of a total of 60 control teeth. A relationship exists between the lack of continuity of the periodontal ligament and the lack of the continuity of the hard sheet, with the presence of radicular reabsorption. The discovery that evidenced a bigger statistical significance was the absence of continuity of the periodontal ligament in the palatine surface of the teeth in study.OBJETIVO: Establecer la frecuencia de reabsorción radicular de dientes anteriores superiores en pacientes con hábito de deglución atípica con empuje lingual anterior, sin haber recibido tratamiento ortodóntico u ortopedia maxilar. MÉTODO: Estudio observacional descriptivo transversal, de 30 pacientes con diagnóstico de deglución atípica. RESULTADOS: La edad promedio fue de 21.7± 2.4 años. Se encontró relación significativa entre los dientes en estudio y los dientes control y la ausencia de continuidad del ligamento periodontal por vestibular y palatino, también con la ausencia de continuidad de la lámina dura por vestibular. No se encontró relación significativa entre los dientes en estudio y los dientes control y la ausencia de continuidad de la lámina dura por palatino. No se encontró relación significativa entre los dientes en estudio y los dientes control y la reabsorción radicular externa. CONCLUSIONES: Existe relación entre: la falta de continuidad del ligamento periodontal y la lámina dura por vestibular y palatino, con la presencia de reabsorción radicular externa. La asociación entre la ausencia de la continuidad del ligamento periodontal y la lámina dura tanto por vestibular y palatino con la presencia de reabsorción radicular externa presentó mayores porcentajes, sin embargo esta diferencia con los otros grupos no es significativa. La proporción de reabsorción radicular para este estudio fue del 60% para los dientes en estudio y de 45% para los dientes control.
