dc.descriptionLocal analgesia is of great importance in preventing pain during dental treatments. The sections on instruments, technique, and precautions highlight the safest methods for achieving good local anesthesia. Although prilocadine and lidocaine are the most commonly used drugs, others have been mentioned to demonstrate the progress in research toward finding an ideal local analgesic. Moton and Warren, in 1846, demonstrated the benefits of etheric anesthesia. The stimulating properties and numbing of the oral mucosa caused by coca leaves (critroxilon) were known to the Incas, who cultivated this plant. In 1859, Vieman isolated its principal active ingredient. In 1884, the world was able to understand that it was possible to operate painlessly and without loss of consciousness. This was thanks to Karl Kolla, a Viennese ophthalmologist, who reported the use of cocaine, which, when applied locally, temporarily interrupts the conduction of stimuli, abolishing peripheral sensitivity.
dc.description.abstractLa analgesia local encierra una gran importancia para prevenir el dolor durante tratamientos dentales. Las secciones correspondientes a instrumentos, técnica y precauciones resultan los métodos más seguros para lograr una buena anestesia local. Aunque la Prilocadina y Lidocaína son las drogas más utilizadas, se han mencionado otras para mostrar el progreso en la investigación en pro de encontrar un analgésico local ideal. Moton y Warren en 1846, demuestran los beneficios de la anestesia etérea, las propiedades estimulantes y adormecimiento de la mucosa bucal, causadas por las hojas de coca critroxilon, fueron conocidas por los incas, quienes cultivaban esta planta. En 1859 Vieman aísla su principal activo, en 1884 se puede explicar al mundo que era posible operar sin dolor y sin pérdida de conciencia, esto gracias a Karl Kolla, oftalmólogo vienés, quien comunica el uso de la cocaína que, aplicada localmente, interrumpe temporalmente la conducción de estímulos, aboliendo la sensibilidad periférica.
